Marion’s Favorites: First Circle by Pat Metheny Group

About two years ago, I posted my ten favorite albums on Instagram.  As a music lover, it was one of the hardest decisions I ever had to make.   My ten favorite albums:

1) Tiempos by Ruben Blades

2) Brother Sister by The Brand New Heavies

3) Buena Vista Social Club by Buena Vista Social Club

4) Blue Pacific by Michael Franks

5) Jazzmatazz, Vol. 1 by Guru

6) Positivity by Incognito

7) Hearsay by Alexander O’Neal

8) Diamond Life by Sade

9) High Life by Wayne Shorter

10) Ten Summoner’s Tales by Sting

That’s a great favorite album list.  However, there are always other albums that belong in your top ten.  I realize there is one album that I missed and should be included on my list.  First Circle by Pat Metheny Group belongs with those other great albums.

I have been a Pat Metheny Group fan for nearly thirty years after being introduced to their music from the song 5-5-7 of the Letter From Home album.  The group’s music has been a constant companion throughout my adult life and a place of refuge.

Pat Metheny Group fans like myself have always mentioned First Circle as their favorite PMG song. I agree with the rest of PMG fandom about First Circle. As much as I love that song, the entire album is just great music. Songs like If I Could, Tell It All, & Mas Alla (Beyond) with Pedro Aznar on vocals round out the album.

The First Circle album by the Pat Metheny Group is a wonderful album with gorgeous, atmospheric instrumental music that is a staple for the band’s fans and a great place to start for newcomers to their music.
