World Malbec Day 2021

April 17th is World Malbec Day.  Malbec is my favorite dry red wine to drink and I have tried over twenty different Malbec wines but I keep coming back to this Amalaya Malbec from Argentina. This Malbec has a smooth taste and the versatility to be drunk with meats or vegetables.

Most red wine connoisseurs prefer a Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot or Pinot Noir for their regular wine drinking. However, Malbec has become my preferred red wine over those other ones.  I hope other vino lovers give Malbec wine a chance and added it to their regular wine consumption.

Argentina is the world’s greatest producer of Malbec wine. Over 75% of all Malbec grapes are grown in Argentina and on 17th April, 1853 the first agricultural school in Argentina was founded, in the hopes of adapting French grapes to the soils of Mendoza. This date is a symbol of the transformation of Argentina’s wine industry and the starting point for the development of Malbec, an emblem for Argentina worldwide.

A glass of Argentinan Malbec tastes soft as it goes down in your mouth.  The aromas are red fruit, plums & cherries and has flavors of chocolate, vanilla, and tobacco.  There is a lot going on with this wine and when you drink a good one, you will taste all the aforementioned flavors.

Malbec pairs well beef brisket, duck, chicken leg, lamb, beef, ostrich, buffalo, and pork shoulder. Also, it is pairs well with vegetables like mushrooms, green and red bell peppers, potato, arugula, kale, chard, grilled endive, onion, beet, tempeh, lentils, black beans, and forbidden rice. These pairings is also why it’s my favorite wine.  It is great by itself!

My favorite Malbec wines are Pascual Toso Malbec, Tall Dark Stranger Malbec, Cruz Alta Malbec, Eccentric Malbec, and Don Miguel Gascon Malbec.

Happy World Malbec Day and worth celebrating on this holiday!
